A small homestead of our own was always a dream of ours since the beginning.
We always wanted our children to experience the farm life that we had
with our grandparents when we were young. When the opportunity found us we embraced it and figured it was meant to be and haven't looked back since. Our little homestead is located near beautiful NE Central Iowa town of Parkersburg.

First order of business was to get the chickens settled. (Yes, we had chickens in the city. LOL) After that, we talked about getting a miking cow but decided we didn't want an animal that big. So, goats it was.
We started with goats in 2008, having a few breeds over the years. The nigerian dwarf goats have been with us from the beginning and the mini saanens were started a few years later.  We love the nigerians for
their rich milk. The mini saanens are a nice combination of both breeds. Their milk is little richer than a standard saanen, and we like the slightly smaller size for handling.  We milk our goats daily and make products such as ice cream, cheese, butter and even just plain milk for our own use.

We are not currently on DHIR, however, barn records are available on request.
We milk our does two-times-a-day, weighing each does milk at each milking.

All pregnant does tested CAE negative in 02/2014 & 2/2016
